Day 248 of a year of kindness - My friend and I went to see the 50th anniversary of Jaws tonight. I had a coupon for two free drinks and popcorn. We only wanted one drink so I gave the other away to an appreciative teenager.
But a much more profound kindness transpired after an 11-year-old from Pensacola, Fla. watched the film in 1996.Hunter Scott, was fascinated by the scene where the character Quint talks about surviving the attack on the USS Indianapolis. The ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1945. Many sailors died that day and the commanding officer, Captain Charles McVay, was court-martialed and charged with negligence. After watching the movie,
Hunter decided to research the sinking of the USS Indianapolis for his history fair. After reaching out to 40 survivors and getting more information, he realized that Captain McVay was not negligent. It led to an investigation and the exoneration of Captain McVay in 2000. It also inspired Hunter to join the Navy. It’s an incredible story and it is true.
Science of Kindness: Research shows that kindness can have a ripple effect that can change the course of history. #Bekind #kindnessisfree #kindnessmatters #bekind #jaws50thanniversary
