Day 272 of a year of kindness

I slowed it down. I did not impress my physical therapist when I showed up with a swollen ankle because I pushed myself too hard. I am banned from unloading any more pumpkins. But I am allowed to attend a low-impact water aerobics class for mostly seniors at the YMCA.

I joined about 25 women this morning and walked in a circle while miming a series of exercises like bouncing basketballs, skiing and fencing. As we stretched side-to-side with our pool noodles, I noticed that none of the women had gotten their hair wet and some were in full makeup with lipstick. This group wasn’t moving fast - and I was still slightly behind.

Despite my impatience in the slow lane, it has always offered its own gifts. When I do slow down, remain present, and listen to myself, things always seem to work out better.

Science of Kindness: Science reveals that when we slow down, our nervous system shifts into repair mode. Cortisol drops. Oxytocin rises. Our bodies listen, recalibrate, rebuild. #bekind #kindnessmatters
