Day 269 of a year of kindness
I went to my cousin's funeral today. I’m a firm believer in attending funerals because it shows respect and it is a profound kindness to the family.I drove from Rhode Island to Cambridge, Mass. with my cousin Susan Hinckley, and my Aunt Helen K Woodhouse.
We sat in a 265-year-old church across from Harvard University and watched my cousins give beautiful eulogies about their formidable and complicated 86-year-old mother. Afterwards, I spoke to and hugged family members I haven’t seen in years. Hopefully, we will reconnect more often.
My cousins also sent me home with gorgeous flowers for my mother who couldn’t attend the service.
Science of Kindness: Research and my own experience reveal that the act of showing up for a grieving family is kind. It offers comfort and reminds them that they are not alone and their loved one mattered to others. #bekind #kindnessmatters #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #christchurchcambridge
