Day 265 of a year of kindness

This evening I attended my first meeting of a women's club I joined this summer. I became interested in the local General Federation of Women’s Club after I learned about its commitment to service. This group established many of the country’s public libraries and even had Eleanor Roosevelt as a member.

Today's kindness was that I brought a bag of food to donate to their collection drive. But they did more for me tonight than I did for them. Sometimes after listening to the news, I wonder if there really are more good people than bad. But it’s hard not to believe in the goodness of people after sitting in a whole room full of helpers. The organization was built around service and kindness and all of its 135 area members are required to volunteer. You can rock babies, collect trash on the highway, read scholarship applications, deliver meals, plant a garden etc. Service is baked into the community.

It felt wonderful to contribute to their food drive and be surrounded by women who want to make the world a better place one small act at a time.

Science of Kindness: Research and my own observations reveal that being of service to others always increases the quality of your life. #kindnessmatters #kindness #helpers
