Day 258 of a year of kindness

Today I got to witness an enormous amount of kindness. On my 93rd day of kindness, I met Sarah Dully, a teacher at Narragansett High School. We connected because we both made extreme New Year’s Resolutions. I decided to do something kind every day and she committed to running a mile every day. We are both on 258!

Sarah is also a big fan of kindness and has showed up here as a kindness ambassador. She established a kindness club at the high school and shares compassion and kindness with her students and colleagues every day.

I had the honor of visiting Narragansett High School again today to celebrate - along with the entire school - her being awarded Rhode Island Teacher of the Year. The gymnasium erupted in cheers and applause while the school band played. All of the speakers described Sarah as an excellent special education and english teacher with a heart for her students and her community. They showered her with love and it was awesome to see. I was so proud to watch an educator who champions kindness take center stage and get the recognition she deserves.

Science of Kindness: Science reveals that teachers have a lasting impact on their students. When students feel safe, valued, and respected, they’re more likely to ask questions, and express themselves. Kindness reduces stress, which allows the brain to focus, retain information, and engage creatively. Students learn how to treat others by watching how adults treat them. When teachers model kindness, students internalize empathy, patience, and respect and carry those values into their friendships, families, and communities. #BeKind #Kindnessmatters #Narragansetthighschool
