Day 297 of a year of kindness

I went to a somewhat formal event tonight in costume. Unfortunately, almost no one else wore a costume. Dracula made an appearance, but forgot his fangs.

This could have been awkward but we leaned into it. Susie, as Flo from Progressive, asked total strangers what they would like to have bundled. Linda, as a hippie, owned the dance floor. Amy, as Robert Palmer’s back up dancer, had her own impromptu solo on the dance floor complete with fake guitar. Catherine and I - as Pink Ladies from Grease - cheerfully smiled and mingled.

The woman in the photo - not in costume - is Fran. She wanted us to know that the party wouldn’t have been the same without us and our costumes. She was kind to tell us that. Sometimes kindness is silly and creates a space for fun and community.

Science of Kindness: Research reveals that kindness, even in small or silly forms, boosts well-being for both the giver and the receiver. It lowers stress, increases happiness, and fosters a sense of community. #BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #kindness #halloweencostumes
