Day 286 of a year of kindness
This morning I was in the YMCA locker room after my water aerobics class. One of the mature ladies was blow drying her hair in front of the mirror. As I was getting dressed, I overheard her say, “Well, that’s as beautiful as you’re going to get.” I thought that was a funny thing to say - and then the other ladies in the locker room chimed in.
“That’s because you couldn’t be any more beautiful,” said one.
“You’re a beauty,” said another.
“Beauuuutifulll is right,” said a third.
I loved hearing this chorus of compliments. It reminded me that most people don’t have their own locker room cheering squad. So, I grabbed some sticky notes and left some reminders in the changing room of a local department store. Everyone should feel beautiful.
Science of Kindness: Research shows that telling someone they are beautiful is a very kind thing to do. Compliments activate the brain releasing endorphins that improve mood and increase feelings of happiness. It’s like giving someone money but worth so much more.
