Day 333 of a year of kindness

Thankfully, Ambassador #38, Julie Seregny Mahoney, called me up with a kindness. My kindness contender for the day - at that point - was petting a goat named Cupcake. Thankfully, Julie had a much better story.

Her Illinois hometown was hit with a snowstorm last night. Julie looked out her window this morning and wondered how to dig out of her driveway and make a path to the mailbox. She and her husband are both struggling with some mobility issues, which make shoveling impossible.

A few hours later, she looked out her window again and her driveway and path to the mailbox were clear. She found out that her next door neighbor - who she doesn’t know very well except for a passing wave - had cleared both. Julie was delighted.

“He has no idea what that meant to us,” she said. “It was such a meaningful act of kindness.”

She appreciated his selflessness and plans to write him a thank you note.

Science of Kindness: Research reveals that digging someone out - figuratively and literally - is kind because it creates community and boosts the belief and reality that people are kind. Acts like this don’t just clear snow; they clear space for hope, connection, and trust.#BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #kindnessmatters
