Day 328 of a year of kindness
I wrote thank you notes this afternoon. I was in Fort Myers, Fla. recently seeking support for a kindness conference in May 2026 at Florida Gulf Coast University. I met with friends and former colleagues who offered to support the effort to bring 20 global kindness leaders to Southwest Florida (more on this soon). It’s a dream envisioned by Alan Williams and me, and it’s becoming a reality with the tremendous support from Maria Loffredo Roca, director of the Roots of Compassion and Kindness Center at the university (more on that as well).
I thanked them for their time and their personal, professional, and financial support. I’m so profoundly grateful for this community and so many big-hearted people who believe in the power of kindness.
I also wrote a letter to Cynthia Bissett Germanotta (Lady Gaga’s mother) and cofounder of Born This Way Foundation, which champions kindness and youth initiatives, inviting her to speak at the conference. It’s kind to keep dreaming!
Science of Kindness: Writing a thank you note is a small act with outsized impact: it nurtures emotional closeness, reduces stress, shares gratitude and reminds both writer and recipient of shared kindness. Plus, writing letters of any kind is cool. #BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #kindnessmatters #thankyounotes
