Day 327 of a year of kindness

I felt really out of sorts today. Nothing I did worked out particularly well. I’ve also been having back pain, which didn’t help my mood.

I offered to drive my mother’s car to keep it active and the battery died. After finally getting to the grocery store, I used the self-checkout lane and it kept breaking down so my quick errand felt like an eternity. It was like that most of the day. By late afternoon, I drove to the chiropractor and he put heating pads on my back and then adjusted it - I felt so much better physically and emotionally.

That choice reminded me again how critical self-kindness is and that tending to my own pain (and not waiting another week) was kind. Afterwards, when I drove into my neighborhood, I saw this beautiful sunset. I took the time to watch the sun fade into the horizon and appreciate the colors and the sliver of a moon above it. I took in a deep breath and exhaled.

Science of Kindness: Research shows caring for yourself reduces stress (lowers cortisol the stress hormone), improves resilience, calms the nervous system and opens you to beauty and connection. #BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #kindnessmatters #self-compassion
