Day 320 of a year of kindness
I flew back from Florida just in time to attend my card league’s closing celebration. Kat, an enthusiastic card player, launched the Hi, Low, Jack league last year at a local pizza restaurant. She pulled together friends, family and strangers to share some fun during the cold months.
Tonight, Kat announced the top five winners - out of 32 - and one of those winners took a victory lap! We all clapped enthusiastically for Meg (pictured) and all of the other winners.
It’s all incredibly silly. But it’s tough out there. It’s kind to create a space for laughter and fun. And it’s an act of kindness - for yourself and others - to invest so much in something lighthearted (and competitive) that when you win your smile lights up the room and makes everyone else smile as well.
Science of Kindness: Science reveals that smiles are contagious. Neuroscience shows that seeing someone smile activates mirror neurons in our brains, prompting us to smile back. This creates a feedback loop of positive emotion across a group. Also creating a structured opportunity for connection counters isolation and fosters resilience and community. #BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #thebikestopcafe #highlowjack #winning
