Day 142 of a year of Kindness

I’ve been going to physical therapy for six weeks after my foot rebelled from walking too much. I started my therapy at one office and left after a few sessions. The therapist who worked with me was disinterested and miserable. I’ve decided that if I have a choice, I won’t hang out with miserable people.

I switched offices and started working with Duyanh Nguyen at Highbar Physical Therapy. He was always upbeat. He cared about my progress. He listened. This afternoon, he told an elderly man struggling to ride a stationary bike that he was the best dressed client they have ever had. He encouraged everyone around him.Today was my last session with him because he’s driving across the country to work near Seattle. I gave him a souvenir so he wouldn’t forget Rhode Island. He was so surprised.

“I love hats,” he said enthusiastically.

I continue to learn this lesson throughout my year of kindness - it’s always kind - and always worth it - to let someone know you appreciate them and that they made a difference.

Science of kindness: Research reveals that showing appreciation creates a positive feedback loop in our lives. The more we appreciate, the more we find to appreciate. And the more we find to appreciate, the happier we become. Studies indicate that regular practice of gratitude and/or acts of appreciation can lead to increased happiness, improved health, stronger relationships, and overall better life satisfaction#kindnessiscontagious #kindnessisfree #kindness #kindnessrockproject #bekind #gratitude #actsofappreciation
