Day 122 of a year of Kindness

Today I'm going to share a kindness I witnessed that I'm crazy about. I didn't do it yet, but I will!I’ve spent the last couple of days with my 94-year-old Aunt Maha who lives in Savannah, Ga. She is very independent - drives, cooks, does her bills, goes to her community meetings and doesn’t want anyone fussing over her.So, for more than five plus, her son, who lives in a different state, texts her every single morning between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. It’s simple. He texts: “Alls Well.”She texts back, “Alls Well.”And sometimes she does it first, and sometimes, he does it first. He may also send a podcast or a news article, but the “Alls Well” texts are a permanent fixture in their lives. Recently, my aunt’s elderly neighbor fell and was found alive three days later.“He needed an “Alls Well” system,” she told me.If her son doesn’t hear back from her in a reasonable amount of time, he will call the neighborhood security and they will check on her. So far, he has never had to do that. My cousin likes to know his Mom is well and my Aunt Maha also likes to know that her son is OK. And I like knowing that “Alls Well” is such a sweet and affirming way to start the day.

Science of kindness: Research shows that regularly communicating with seniors helps their mental health and ensures they get the right medical care when necessary. As for children of aging parents, it gives them a sense of security knowing that their parents are doing well.#kindness #kindnessiscontagious @10kindnessclub #kindnessisfree #allswell
