Day 136 of a year of Kindness

I did something kind for myself. I told a potential client that I didn’t want to work with his company. Yesterday, I was on a Zoom call to discuss brand awareness. One of the men was totally distracted and disinterested, couldn’t remember ever meeting me, and then spoke to the other man like I was not there. This was not the first time he completely dismissed me. It was surreal and so unprofessional. I got off the call and felt awful.

I emailed them today that I have chosen not to work with their company and explained some of the reasons. It was a hard email to write. I just realized that no amount of money justifies working with people who make you feel terrible. I sent that email before noon. And, in the strangest of coincidences, I had a call two hours later and got more work from a company that I love and respect.

Science of kindness: Research shows that standing up for yourself, being a self-advocate and drawing firm lines in the stand is kind. Having that kind of courage leads to greater confidence, independence and life satisfaction. And when you shut the door on toxic situations, it opens the door to better opportunities. #kindnessiscontagious #kindnessisfree #kindness #kindnessiscourage #selfadvocacy
