Day 171 of a year of Kindness

My mother didn’t feel well so I took her to the doctor. It was a beautiful New England summer day but it felt like the middle of winter when we stepped into the waiting room. People looked miserable. So, I whipped up some smiling affirmations and stuck them to the drab bathroom mirror.

Afterwards, my mother and I went to the drive through pharmacy and picked up her prescription. I gave some smiley stickers to the pharmacist and it made him laugh, which made my mother laugh. Sometimes, making a person smile or laugh is the kindest thing you can do.

Science of kindness: Research shows that smiles are contagious. Our brains are wired to mimic others when we see them smile. When we smile, our brain responds with a burst of endorphins – our natural feel-good chemicals. This reaction reduces stress and elevates our mood, filling us with a sense of happiness and contentment #bekind #kindnessiscontagious #kindnessisfree #kindness #smile
