Day 153 of a year of KindnessToday was one of my very favorite kindnesses. My friend, Megan Bisset, invited me to talk about kindness to her pre-K class. I spoke to these adorable 4-year-olds and shared that it is kind to be kind to yourself. It’s also kind to like yourself. I asked each child what they liked about themselves. I could not stop smiling! They simply had no reservations about the answer to that question. I loved all the answers but some of my favorites:I like everything about myself!I like that I can stand up for myself!I like that I wear glasses!I am a good sport!I am a kind friend!I like being myself! What a joy to be around these children who like themselves so much. Afterwards, we took all of those good feelings and danced around the class to the song Happy by Pharrel Williams.

Science of kindness: Research shows that a child’s self-esteem often diminishes as they age taking a big dip in sixth grade. When I taught college students about kindness, I saw the lack of self-esteem and spent extra time teaching the science and research around self-compassion. Once they could acknowledge their gifts and strengths, they could begin to imagine and live a life they deserved. #bekind #kindness #KindnessMatters #mosesbrown #ilikeeverythingaboutmyself
