Day 169 of a year of Kindness

Today I went to the Rhode Island Blood Center to donate blood. I got called in to review my paperwork and Jen, the blood technician, asked me why I was wearing a boot. I told her I’ve got a bad ankle. She left to talk to her supervisor and came back to tell me that I couldn’t give blood.

“You need your blood,” she said.

She explained that my ankle is compromised and since I’ll be having surgery, they want me to keep my blood. I hadn’t even considered that possibility. But I thought it was such a great analogy to life - don’t give people your blood (job, relationship, health etc.) when you need it to heal. So, I did the next best thing and took a photo with their cute photo props for inspiration. Since I can’t give blood for a while, I hope that you can.

Science of kindness: Research shows that giving blood is kind because blood is needed every day of the year and there is no substitute for it. It saves lives. Donors provide the only supply of life-saving blood. #bekind #kindnessiscontagious #kindnessisfree #kindness #giveblood #rhodeislandbloodcenter
