Day 337 of a year of kindnessKindness Ambassador #39, Susan Hinckley, stepped in to save the day with food donations.
Here is what she had to say:
"My small church in Rhode Island gathers food donations from our parishioners every week and transfers them to a larger church down the street that has an Ecumenical food closet. They set it up like a small grocery store so clients can make their own choices. The hope is that they feel more dignity than just being handed a pre-packed bag.
The volunteers are so patient and kind; they take each client one at a time and walk through the aisles with them. Last month they helped 272 local families and also packed 130 Thanksgiving meal boxes!
This week our regular “donation transfer” person was unable to take the food (she was busy helping a friend in the hospital) so I stepped in. I took a friend to help and good thing; our priest had managed to get a local restaurant to add their food drive collection to ours!! And my wife will help deliver the donated items to the food closet before it opens up for the clients. Little kindnesses are all around us - when added up they really are life changing!"
Science of Kindness: Science reveals that helping others - like a church food drive not only uplifts the recipients by restoring dignity and choice, but also improves the health, happiness, and resilience of those who give.#BeKind #KindnessCounts #KindnessCounts2025 #kindness #kindnesseffect #foodonation
