Day 239 of a year of Kindness
I was kind to myself today. After six weeks of kindly keeping my foot off the ground because of an ankle injury, my doctor cleared me to ditch my knee scooter. I put my boot on and tentatively took my very first steps in his office. It felt like walking on glass but it was so liberating to finally touch the ground. I was thrilled.
There were days this summer that felt impossibly challenging. I chewed my fingernails off and my mood dipped into some low places. I'll need to wear a boot for awhile and do PT, but the hardest part is over.
After my doctor’s visit, I took the time to acknowledge how hard this has been, and to appreciate how far I’ve come. I bought a round of margaritas and toasted to all of it with friends.
Science of Kindness: Research reveals that kindness plays a critical role in resilience. Treating yourself with kindness, understanding and acceptance, especially when faced with adversity, cultivates resilience and enhances mental well-being. #bekind #kindness #kindnessmatters #kindnessisfree
